2010 FBA Field Day & Heifer Sale Report

Report submitted by event chairman - Joe Butt

WOW! What an overwhelmingly successful event at Florida Brahman Association Field Day and "Sweet 16 Heifer Sale" held at the Gray shadow Ranch in Fort White, Florida. Over 250 people were in the attendance from 9 states, Australia, Nicaragua, and Mexico. The grass was beautiful green and the weather was warm and pretty, just right for Brahman cattle. The enthusiastic crowd was treated to a great program and was able to participate in a judging contest and weight guessing. The juniors participated in a showmanship contest that was like no other. The 23 juniors actually used the sale offering as the showmanship calves to demonstrate their handling skills and to show off just how gentle and broke the sale heifers were! We even had 10 first time juniors and pee-wees. The showmanship winners were: Allie Carriere - Junior, Brandalyn Bishop - Intermediate, Hannah Carriere - Senior. Overall Grand Champion showman was Hannah Carriere. The open judging contest was won by Adrian Land Sr.  The classes judged were breeding females, yearling bulls, and show heifer prospects.

The Fun Auction Fundraiser was an overwhelming success with donated items from the Florida members and friends. These items raised over $17,500 for the Florida Brahman Association kitty! Many original Florida items such as cracker whips and cow dogs were really sought after through bidding! This portion of the Field Day was almost too much fun for all.

The Sweet 16 Heifer sale had a hard act to follow, but was up to the challenge. The top show heifers averaged over $5000 with the replacement heifers averaging $2300. The high selling heifer was GS355 consigned by Gray Shadow/Valley B and sold to FR Brahmans of Lafayette, Louisiana. Second high (Rocking S 444) was consigned by Rocking S Ranch and went to IS Ranch of Trenton, Florida. The third high lot GS362 consigned by GS/VBE and sold to IS Ranch of Trenton, Florida.

Juniors met and made plans for the All-American and elected new officers. Adrian Land - President, Kaitlyn Gill- Vice President, Arica Land - Secretary, Briana Bishop to serve as Florida Jr. Director. Florida Brahman Association officers: Larry Barthle - President, Danny Candler - Vice President, Ricky Booth - Secretary/Treasurer/Website Manager.
