Pres. Larry Barthle called the meeting to order at 10:50 AM
Secretary/Treasurer Ricky Booth gave the financial report. He reported that the 2010 Field Day made $16,376 and that the bank account balance was now $18,182. Larry Barthle inquired about the FJBA funds that were to mailed to the FBA Secretary. Ricky Booth reported that they had not yet been received. With no objections it was decided that FJBA funds going forward would be maintained by the FBA.
Ricky Booth asked for a clarification in mailing out membership dues. It was decided to mail out dues forms in November and ask for them to be returned by January 1. Furthermore, the FBA will cross reference Florida ABBA membership list with our own membership list and send an invitation to those who are not yet FBA members. Jimmy Chapman asked that an application be made available and to solicit a membership from each new buyer, and that FBA producers suggest possibly paying for the buyer to become a member.
Pres. Barthle thanked Joe Butt for chairing the 2010 Field Day. Mr. Butt discussed the positive response we received from the southeastern region, but he felt we could improve upon our core support. The board agreed that the event was extremely successful and we should begin planning for a 2011 field day. Marcus Shackelford led a discussion on format options for future field days; including searching for different fun auction items that would create renewed interest and continued pressure on consignors for top quality heifers. Keith Register mentioned that the FBA should investigate consigning pens/groups of heifers in conjunction with the haltered show heifers. The STARS in Brooksville was discussed as a possible site for 2011.
Attendees broke for lunch.
Dr. Chad Chase gave a media presentation on the current work at STARS. He gave an update on current flushing of the donated cows and an in depth description of the long term goals of the Brahman research. Immediately following the group took a tour of the facilities lead by Dr. Coleman and Dr. Chase. Further discussion in-sued concerning hosting the 2011 field day at the site.
As the meeting resumed inside, Pres. Barthle mentioned that he had been contacted by Adrian Land, Sr. about a possible FJBA State Show. It was agreed that the FBA would support any efforts by the FJBA to a host a state junior show when they came forward with a proposal.
Without objection it was approved that the FBA would sponsor the junior show winners at the FL State Fair in Tampa again in 2011. The sponsorship is $100.
Pres. Barthle brought up the opportunity to have a booth at the FCA Convention Trade Show in June of 2011. The ABBA will split the cost. A discussion was then had about purchasing a new booth set-up for the FBA. A decision was tabled until more information could be gathered concerning cost and willingness to man the booth at various trade shows throughout the year.
Ricky Booth asked for a budget to be created for marketing. Joe Butt suggested the FBA begin to advertise in AL, GA, and the Carolinas. He also suggested we explore having a breeder directory in the Brahman Journal. Decisions were tabled until the next meeting when a more detailed plan could be presented.
Pres. Barthle relayed information from FDACS that they were interested in sending someone to Brazil for the World Brahman Congress.
Ricky Booth made a motion that Larry Barthle/Critter Creations create a serviceable logo for the FBA. Jimmy Chapman seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
Pres. Barthle stated he would plan for another meeting July.
Meeting was adjourned.
